Eating Disorders Treatment Approach

Those who overcome an eating disorder are dealing with physical, psychological, interpersonal, and social issues. At Rogers, we use proven, evidence-based treatment components that give individuals with an eating disorder the best chance at recovery.

Personalized treatment plans address each patient’s needs and focus on three key areas:

Nutritional Stability
This is the first priority in treatment. Our goal is for patients to achieve abstinence from cycles of binge-eating and purging and other eating disordered behaviors, as well as restoring and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Changes in Thinking
Through group therapy sessions, we help patients identify and correct errors in thinking, such as body image distortions, perfectionism or drive for thinness. Changes in thinking patterns are necessary to maintain nutritional improvements.

Obstacles to Recovery
We work with each patient to identify ways to overcome barriers and build confidence using newly acquired coping and self-care skills. Eating disorder symptoms can be more severe for those struggling with a co-occurring anxiety disorder like obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Our treatment approach encourages self-empowerment, so the individual’s recovery is a result of his or her own success.
