Adult and Older Adult Mental Health

Rogers Memorial Hospital provides comprehensive treatment services for adults and older adults dealing with a range of mental health disorders.

Led by Jerry Halverson, MD, and Vineet Kulkarni, MD, board-certified psychiatrists who practice full-time at Rogers Memorial, our experienced clinicians help patients gain productive insight into their behaviors and feelings, set realistic goals and practice new behaviors through a multi-faceted range of therapies and education.

From admission to discharge and aftercare planning, patients are involved in every step of the treatment process. Families are an integral part of our treatment approach.

Prior to admission, prospective patients complete a free screening that is reviewed by one of the program’s attending physicians to determine what level of care will meet the needs of each individual.

Levels of care:

We offer three levels of behavioral health services for adults and older adults.

Residential Treatment

Specialized residential treatment centers offer intensive and structured therapies in a supportive environment for adults with:

  • Chemical dependency
  • Eating disorders
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder and other anxiety disorders

Partial Hospitalization

Our partial hospitalization treatment services are for adults dealing with a range of psychiatric symptoms and diagnoses. The treatment program is offered five days per week and provides an intensive daily therapy structure using evidence-based treatment components. The primary goal of partial hospitalization is to improve symptoms and daily functioning while allowing individuals to remain connected with their family and other social support systems.

Inpatient Hospitalization

Our inpatient hospitalization is offered in an acute, behavioral health setting for adults and older adults who require brief intensive treatment for a wide range of psychiatric symptoms and diagnoses. Medically managed detoxification services are also provided. The primary goals of inpatient hospitalization are a comprehensive diagnostic assessment, stabilization of symptoms, and transition to a less intensive level of care.

Treatment Approach:

Our treatment approach focuses on rehabilitation and personal strengths, which allow the individual to begin (or resume) the healing process. Patients gain productive insight into their behaviors and feelings, set realistic goals and practice new behaviors through a multi-faceted range of therapies and education, offered in a calming environment by supportive staff.

From admission to discharge and aftercare planning, patients are involved in every step of the treatment process. Each patient’s program is individualized to meet his or her needs and goals.

Families are an integral part of our treatment approach. In many instances, therapy or education sessions that include family members are provided. In addition, staff members work with the patient and family to anticipate issues that may arise after discharge, and then help the individual and family develop a plan that best meets that patient’s recovery needs.

Treatment Team:

Our clinical staff is led by Jerry Halverson, MD, and Vineet Kulkarni, MD board-certified adult psychiatrists who practice full time at Rogers Memorial.

Other members of the team may include: psychiatrist, internal medicine or family practice physician, clinical psychologist, master’s-level social workers/counselors, certified substance abuse counselors, registered nurse, registered dietitian, certified experiential therapists and mental health technicians.

Upon admission, patients meet individually with members of the treatment team to complete a comprehensive evaluation that is used to develop a personalized plan. During treatment, patients participate in a weekly session with the physician as well as group-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and a range of experiential therapies plus education facilitated by other members of the treatment team.

With patient consent, the treatment team will provide ongoing written and/or oral communication regarding progress and the coordination of continuing care with the primary care and outpatient providers.

If the patient has an outpatient therapist and primary care provider, our staff, with patient consent, provides these providers with ongoing written and/or oral communication regarding patient progress and the coordination of continuing care services.
