Visiting a patient

You're considering making a big investment in your health and well being, and it’s not unexpected that you might have questions about what treatment is like at Rogers Memorial Hospital.

Please call 800-767-4411 to arrange for a tour of our facilities or if you have questions that are not answered here.

  • What's expected from parents and other family members after admission?

Family members are an important part of treatment and recovery. In many instances, therapy or education sessions that include family members are provided. Please note that only with the patient's written and verbal consent will we contact identified family members and schedule a telephone or face-to-face session to discuss treatment progress and any recommendations for continuing care following treatment.

    • Inpatient Hospitalization:
The social worker/counselor works with the individual and her/his family to assess what level of care is needed after the inpatient stay, and then to help make arrangements for that level of care. They will work with the patient and family to anticipate issues that may arise after the inpatient hospitalization, and then help the individual and family develop a plan that best meets that patient's recovery needs. Families of patients will likely be requested to participate in one to two family sessions during the treatment stay. These sessions are helpful in providing updates of treatment progress, offering the family an opportunity to voice questions and concerns, and discussing follow-up treatment options.
    • Residential Treatment:
Just as in the inpatient program, families are expected to participate in the treatment process by attending family sessions and group education. Residential care also focuses on developing a thorough discharge plan for when the resident returns home.
    • Partial Hospitalization and Day Treatment:
Individual and/or family therapy may be recommended in the partial hospitalization program. This treatment service is not offered by Rogers Memorial Hospital; if your family member has an outpatient therapist, he/she will continue to be the primary provider of individual or family therapy. Our staff will offer referrals to appropriate providers if your family member does not currently have an outpatient therapist. We work closely with your family member's current outpatient providers or assist him/her with finding an outpatient therapist to maximize the gains made during his/her stay at our hospital.
  • We encourage patients to receive visitors during scheduled visiting hours. This allows patients to receive maximum benefit of their treatment program. Please note that no visitors under age 18 are permitted unless they are a member of the patient’s family and accompanied by the parent. Visitors who are disruptive, endanger the safety of others or interfere with hospital policies will be asked to leave.

    • Inpatient Units
Visiting hours are outlined on the unit schedule. All visitors need to register at the lobby reception desk and check in at the nurse’s station upon arrival on the unit.
    • Residential Centers
Please check with your family member’s primary therapist to schedule a visit. In some instances, visits may be limited during the week to encourage residents to participate and focus on current treatment needs. Upon your arrival, check in at the main hospital and with the staff in the residential center. Please note that on-campus and off-campus passes must be approved by the treatment team. Approval is based on the resident’s progress and the therapeutic value of the pass.
    • Partial Hospitalization or Day Treatment
Unless a family session has been scheduled with a member of the treatment team, patients may not have visitors while enrolled in the program. All visitors are expected to remain in the lobby of the main hospital until a staff member is able to meet them.
  • In order to protect patients, we require that all packages, gifts or supplies brought by visitors be checked by a member of the staff for approval. If an item that is not allowed is sent or brought into the facility, it will be returned to the sender.

  • All information about your family member’s treatment is private and confidential. No information is released without his/her written consent, except in cases where it is required by law. Likewise, you are asked to keep all information about other patients and their families private. This is crucial because respect and confidentiality among patients and staff helps build trust. The treatment staff does share among themselves all necessary information regarding patients.
