Dr. Eken and Dr. Jacobi Prepare for Presentation at IOCDF Conference

As all of the specialists get ready for the upcoming International OCD Foundation Conference in Chicago, two of Rogers’ key clinicians are gearing up to host one of the final presentations of the conference – “What Families Need to Know to Navigate the School System.” Featuring Stephanie Eken, MD, FAAP, Medical Director of the Child Center, and David Jacobi, PhD., Behavior Specialist and Clinical Supervisor, the panel should be a draw for families and kids with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

The discussion will address ideas for interacting with school systems, school personnel and classmates, along with information on how to advocate for children, the accommodations available to kids with OCD, the effects of medication, and the application of Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) strategies in the classroom. Parents will also walk away with specific strategies to educate school personnel about OCD, understand its impact on academic performance and social interactions (e.g., bullying), and access available resources to help children in the classroom. The ways in which professionals can assist with both medication and ERP strategies will also be discussed. Wendy E. Halloran, MS – an Educational Consultant – and Melvina Johnson-Young, MA – a mother of a child with OCD – will also be on the panel. Each panelist will offer a brief presentation, and ample time will be allotted for questions. The International OCD Foundation Conference will be held in Chicago July 27-29.
