Rogers Memorial Hospital, a specialty provider of behavioral health treatment services is partnering with area organizations like Mental Health America of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Family Ties to help provide resources for parents and children. In light of recently publicized news stories, it’s important to remember that these organizations are available to help children and families who have been impacted by tragedy. Children or adults with existing mental health concerns can be triggered by these events and those who have displayed symptoms may do so in this context.

If you are concerned that your child or adolescent has been traumatized by an event like the recent Sikh shooting in Wisconsin, we recommend the resources provided by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network or National Institute of Mental Health.

Should counseling or treatment be required, we encourage parents or individuals to contact:

  • Mental Health America Wisconsin also offers a support group for youth on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to provide peer support for individuals who have experienced the sudden death of a loved one, for more information download this flier.

On behalf of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), Rogers Memorial Hospital hosted the Research Grant Reception during the annual conference July 27-29. Each year, the Foundation awards grants for research related to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Attendees included a virtual “who’s who” of OCD clinicians and researchers. Among them were Bradley C. Riemann, PhD, Medical Director of Rogers’ OCD Center and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Services, and Michael Jenike, MD, Chair of IOCDF’s Scientific Advisory Board. The two welcomed attendees, discussed the IOCDF Research Fund, provided an overview of 2012 Grant Recipients, and announced the Poster Travel Awards. In addition, Dr. Riemann also introduced Pat Hammer, Rogers’ new President and CEO, at the event.

On July 31, 2012, Theodore E. Weltzin, MD, FAED, Medical Director for Rogers’ Eating Disorder Center, took part in a free webinar sponsored by the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). Addressing professionals, family and friends, Dr. Weltzin offered his expertise as one of the nation’s leading authorities on eating disorders. He presented background and clinical information on eating disorders and treatment, while panelists Troy Roness, Ron Saxen and Chris Skarinka offered their personal insights as men who had struggled with eating disorders themselves. Together, the four examined how eating disorders in males are on the rise, the reasons for this and what it can mean for you or a loved one. The 19th Annual International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) Conference in Chicago attracted a record number of researchers, clinicians, patients and families on July 27-29. In fact, Rogers Memorial Hospital’s participation was greater than ever before, with more than two dozen members of its clinical staff in attendance and featured presentations by Bradley C. Riemann, Ph.D., Stephanie Eken, M.D., FAAP, and David Jacobi, Ph.D. In addition to offering a booth, Rogers provided programs for children during the presentations and hosted special dinners for some of the key presenters. The environment at the IOCDF Conference was collegial with many different exhibits and highly respected programs represented… all committed to providing more effective treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and other related disorders.

Dr. Theodore Weltzin, the Medical Director for Rogers’ Eating Disorder Center, will be featured in an interview on Saturday, August 25 at 10:00 a.m. on WTDY in Madison. Recognized as a leading authority in the treatment and research of eating disorders, Dr. Weltzin will address the increased pressure to achieve an ideal body type among men and boys (register for Dr. Weltzin’s free webinar on July 31 too!), as well as the causes and treatment of eating disorders in both men and women. The program will be the first in a series of interviews with Rogers’ clinicians and will appear on Carol Koby’s “All About Living.” Others are currently scheduled for December, February, April and June – check our Events Calendar often for more information as it’s available!
