Dr. Theodore Weltzin, the Medical Director for Rogers’ Eating Disorder Center, will be featured in an interview on Saturday, August 25 at 10:00 a.m. on WTDY in Madison. Recognized as a leading authority in the treatment and research of eating disorders, Dr. Weltzin will address the increased pressure to achieve an ideal body type among men and boys (register for Dr. Weltzin’s free webinar on July 31 too!), as well as the causes and treatment of eating disorders in both men and women. The program will be the first in a series of interviews with Rogers’ clinicians and will appear on Carol Koby’s “All About Living.” Others are currently scheduled for December, February, April and June – check our Events Calendar often for more information as it’s available!

The Medical Director of Rogers’ Herrington Recovery Center, Dr. Michael Miller, will be interviewed on an upcoming segment of “Money Sense” which airs on WISN AM 1130 out of Milwaukee. Show #1247. Airs Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 23, 2012, Dr. Miller will discuss addiction and how treatment can be a good business decision. In addition, Dr. Peter Lake was a recent guest who discussed the issues individuals and their families might face when dealing with mental health and substance abuse in their lives. On August 9, Rogers Memorial Hospital will help sponsor a new panel series offered by Addiction Professional Magazine. The inaugural event will bring together experts in the industry who will weigh in on issues of importance to the magazine’s community. Moderated by Gary Enos, Editor-in-Chief, the first discussion will address “Gambling Addiction and Related Co-Morbidities.” The two-hour educational and networking event will be held in Beachwood, OH (near Cleveland) and has already received a lot of interest. Many of the area’s counselors, therapists, medical staff and other professionals who work in addiction treatment and prevention are expected to attend the lunch and panel discussion. A recent story in the Chicago Tribune highlights the fact that eating disorders can occur among males as well as females, with anorexic and bulimic males making up as many as 1 in 4 people. A former patient discusses many aspects of his courageous battle, including the fact that he came to Rogers Memorial Hospital for treatment. Rogers’ Eating Disorder Center was the first provider in the nation to offer separate residential eating disorders treatment for men and boys, and Rogers offers specialized residential eating disorders treatment program for teens and adults with co-occurring anxiety disorders. In a recent story, Theodore E. Weltzin, MD, FAED, Medical Director for Eating Disorder Services at Rogers Memorial Hospital, discusses why male eating disorders can go unrecognized for years, along with a few of the common risk factors – read the article here. In addition to Dr. Weltzin, the medical staff also includes two other full-time, board-certified psychiatrists who specialize in treating eating disorders – Tracey Lee Cornella-Carlson, MD, and Brad Smith, MD. Together, Rogers’ highly skilled treatment team works to address each patient nutritionally and psychologically, as well as to manage other medical issues common to eating disorders.
