Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc is excited to announce the Grand Opening of the new patient and family café. To meet it's goal of a more relaxing atmosphere for patients and families, the Rogers team designed the cafe to look and feel of an upscale coffee shop and substantially improved the menu. Served by trained barista’s, the items available include a variety of “grab and go” sandwiches, salads, breakfast foods, and specialty coffee and other upscale drinks. The cafés grand opening includes a naming contest in which the winner will receive a free cup of coffee every day for an entire year. Rogers continues to share its commitment to the best experience possible with new experiential therapies, a new inpatient wing, and new child and adolescent centers.

The only physician invited to speak, Jerry Halverson, MD, FAPA, the medical director of adult services at Rogers Memorial Hospital, recently testified regarding some of the challenges for patients and physicians in Wisconsin’s mental health system. Convened by State Representative Robin Vos (R), the Speaker of Wisconsin’s Assembly, the Task Force on Mental Health is charged with examining mental health issues in Wisconsin and making recommendations to the Assembly by the end of May for possible legislation and promoting improvements. Dr. Halverson was asked to give a broad overview of mental illness to help set the stage for the Task Force moving forward.

Rogers Memorial Hospital’s new Vice President of Operations in the West Allis location was recently profiled in The Business Journal. The new executive shared a statement; “Specialty health care, with the interaction of systems to make it all work well, is complex. I have observed that Rogers has core values firmly established in its clinical and operational assumptions. There is a wealth of intellectual capital that clearly helps the teams focus on quality patient care without the distractions of having to figure out the basics. Eating Disorders Treatment for Children and Adolescents was the discussion on Carol Koby’s “All About Living”, a Madison, WI based radio show on AM1550 WHIT.

The show featured Rogers Hospital’s Dr. Tracey Cornella-Carlson, MD, Medical Director for the child/adolescent eating disorders programs at Rogers Memorial Hospital. She has devoted her career as a physician to the treatment of eating disorders in children and teens.

“Living with an eating disorder is a lonely place to be, and eating disorders currently have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Yet, only 1 in 10 receives treatment.”, said Dr. Cornella-Carlson. The show also discussed typical development of eating disorders on children and teens, that this looks like and on recovery.
