The Annual National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) Annual conference was held February 7-9th in Irvine, California. Specifically designed for mental health professionals the conference provides a mixture of presentations on behavioral healthcare programming as well as opportunities for networking. Lead National Outreach Representative, Mary Jo Wiegratz shares, “NATSAP is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other residential treatment facilities to make sure all of us are doing what we can to provide quality services to troubled children, teens and their families.”

Eating disorders (EDs) are occurring at an alarming rate in the United States. In fact, the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) indicates up to 24 million people of all ages – both male and female – suffer from an ED. Often manifesting in adolescence, EDs may go untreated for years until a life-threatening episode occurs. That’s why Dr. Tracey Cornella-Carlson, a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist at Rogers Memorial Hospital, says the earlier the treatment, the better.

In a week of unpredictable weather, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other primary care physicians gathered at the Country Springs Hotel in Waukesha for the 43rd Annual Winter Refresher Course for Family Medicine. Organized by the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians, the conference drew around 200 health professionals looking to hear the latest trends in family medicine. Our community outreach team exhibited, sharing with the Wisconsin medical community what services Rogers can provide for those dealing with a behavioral health diagnosis.

Simultaneous Treatment of OCD, Eating Disorders

The results of a recent outcome study held at Rogers Memorial Hospital have been published by Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group in its journal – Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Pulled from data for patients admitted to Rogers’ Eating Disorder Center (EDC) from 2006-2011, the research indicates that simultaneous treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and eating disorders can be more effective with a multi-modal approach.
