As part of a recent series offered by Addiction Professional Magazine, a panel of experts indicated that gambling addictions usually co-occur with chemical dependency issues and can result from underlying anxiety or depression disorders. Rogers Memorial Hospital helped sponsor the event, which was moderated by Gary Enos, Editor in Chief, and included panelists: Coleen Moore, marketing and admissions manager for the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery; Chris Tuell, EdD, LPCC-S, a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor in Cincinnati, Ohio; and Robert Cabaniss Jr., founder and executive director of Williamsville Wellness Center in Williamsville, New York. About 50 clinicians from the area attended the educational event. The panelists also mentioned the importance of gambling addictions being added to the DSM-5, making it easier for patients to get insurance funding.
