Families are key

Featured Doctor: Theodore E. Weltzin, MD, FAED, Medical Director, Eating Disorder Services

“Patients and families have a ton of information. They have information they don’t even know they have.

“We like to encourage family members and friends to be as involved as possible so that this is not a black box, that this treatment is an open book really, in terms of what we’re trying to do and why we’re doing it and wheather or not it's working.

“The fact of the matter is, eating disorders happen. The more we can enlist parents and family members as collaborators, as resources for recovery, the better chance that person has to get over their eating disorder.

“And the better chance that family has to move on in their life."
