Eating Disorders and Common Misconceptions

As part of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week Tracey Cornella-Carlson(February 24-March 2, 2013), Tracey Cornella-Carlson, MD, CEDS, Medical Director for the child and adolescent eating disorders programs at Rogers spoke with an onmilwaukee.com blogger about some of the common misconceptions people have about eating disorders.

"My favorite line is: eating disorders are not about body size, weight and shape, they are about what is going on in the mind" states Dr. Cornella-Carlson. The blog also discusses how the media may play a role in eating disorders, if the disease is about image or self-control and the public's perception of the illness.

Researches estimate that 24 million Americans are affected by an eating disorder at some time in their life. Rogers is proud to support National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, an annual public education campaign whose goal is to reshape the national conversation about body image and weight, to raise awareness of eating disorders and to improve access to treatment.
