Treatment Approach for Children and Adolescents

At Rogers, we use a multi-modal treatment approach to deliver sensitive, age-specific intensive psychiatric care for children and teens dealing with a broad spectrum of mental health issues.

We begin with an in-depth assessment that includes medical, educational, developmental and social history, and use the information to develop a personalized plan of care to address each child’s specific needs. Treatment components are evidence-based, and cover a comprehensive range of psychotherapy, psycho education and experiential therapies along with strong parent/family education and involvement.

The psychiatrists directing treatment are members of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and uphold its stated position that no medication is ever to be used without therapy. Parents are consulted in determining if medication is appropriate in conjunction with therapy.

Children and teens are given opportunities during their stay to discover their personal strengths and talents. Through group discussions and activities, each child comes to understand his or her specific mental health challenges and learn effective ways of dealing with them.

This comprehensive treatment approach helps young people understand and manage the triggers that contribute to their behaviors. The result is greater awareness, responsibility and an ability to change.

In addition, our staff works closely with school and referring professionals to coordinate a continuing care plan that meets each child’s needs and maximizes outcomes.
