Ian R. Powell, MD

Ian Powell, MD, specializes in addiction medicine and serves as consultant on complex inpatient chemical dependency detoxification cases and for addiction patients in the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs at Rogers’ Brown Deer and West Allis locations. Dr. Powell also provides coverage for other addiction physicians at Rogers’ Oconomowoc campus, including weekend coverage for patients in the Herrington Recovery Center.

A graduate of the Medical College of Ohio (University of Toledo Medical Center), Dr. Powell has extensive training in internal medicine and addiction medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in general internal medicine (GIM) with an emphasis on addiction medicine at the Department of Medicine, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison. He has maintained board certifications in both internal medicine and addiction medicine.

Dr. Powell is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and brings extensive experience to his position. He previously served as medical director at Meriter Hospital/NewStart Alcohol & Drug Treatment Programs, where he was responsible for administrative, inpatient and outpatient duties. In his career, he also worked as an internist for the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation Immediate Care Clinic and for the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics General Internal Medicine Clinic. Dr. Powell also served as a staff addictionologist with Madison Health Services, Madison’s first methadone maintenance treatment clinic.

Dr. Powell was named a “Top Doc” by Madison Magazine in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2012 for alcohol and drug treatment.
