Dr. Halverson has been elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® for 2016.
Jerry L. Halverson, MD, DFAPA, is a board-certified adult psychiatrist with a subspecialty in psychosomatic medicine. He serves as medical director of Rogers Memorial Hospital - Oconomowoc, as well as medical director of the FOCUS program for adults with mood disorders.
Dr. Halverson is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and serves on the APA's Council on Quality of Psychiatric Care, where he helps to develop treatment standards and expectations for psychiatric care. He has been a strong advocate for the use of objective patient care data to improve patient care through his work with statewide entities including the Wisconsin Health Information Organization and the Wisconsin Statewide Health Information Network.
After earning his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Halverson completed an internal medicine internship at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by a residency in general adult psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Prior to joining Rogers, Dr. Halverson was the medical director of adult psychiatry at Meriter Hospital in Madison and was an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health where he directed the Treatment Refractory Psychiatric Disorders Program.
Dr. Halverson is the president of the Wisconsin Medical Society and past president of the Wisconsin Psychiatric Association. He has held key leadership positions within professional organizations both locally and nationally. In addition, he is a member of the World Psychiatric Association, the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Psychiatric Association, the American College of Psychiatrists, the Wisconsin Hospital Association, the Dane County and Waukesha County medical societies and is the physician member of the combined City of Madison / Dane County Board of Health. Dr. Halverson is a regular volunteer physician at UW's Safehaven Psychiatric Clinic for the underserved in Dane County.
Dr. Halverson has lectured throughout the United States on mental health and health policy issues to academic, legislative and community audiences. He has been honored by his colleagues for clinical and leadership excellence, including the Wisconsin Alumni Association with a “Forward Under 40” award, the Kenneth M. Viste, Jr., MD, Young Physician Leadership Award from the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation, an Early Career Leadership Award by the AMA Foundation and the AMA Women's Physician Congress Mentor Award. Dr. Halverson has been elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® in 2015.
