Family Program

The Adolescent Center for OCD and Anxiety’s treatment goal for all our residents is to better function at school and with friends and family. That’s why parents and family members are an important part of treatment and recovery.

We teach coping skills to help adolescents increase self-esteem and self-responsibility. Families are expected to participate in the treatment process by attending family sessions and group education. We actively involve family members to help teens build skills in communication, cooperation and develop a mutual understanding of the assets each family member has.

Our expectation is for family members to be actively involved in the treatment program on a weekly basis. The active involvement of family members helps to ensure the successful transition back home. During family therapy sessions the teen’s illness is considered within the context of the family’s communication patterns, value and belief system, rules, roles and expectations. In addition, family members have therapeutic visitations to practice new behavior and symptom management strategies with the patient.

Many families have the opportunity to join residents in adventure-based experiences as a powerful way to explore family dynamics. These therapist-led sessions offer a safe and secure environment for families to recognize each member’s strengths and challenges and to begin establishing honest communication.
