The research will be presented at the ABCT’s 45th Annual Convention planned for this fall in Toronto. “Relatively few studies to date have evaluated the effectiveness of exposure based interventions for children with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD),” said David M. Jacobi, PhD, one of the study’s authors. “No studies, to our knowledge, have evaluated treatment outcome for children in a residential treatment setting.“

In the study Rogers’ researchers evaluated treatment outcome in an intent-to treat (ITT) sample of children ages 8-14 with a primary diagnosis of OCD. The patients were in Rogers’ specialized residential treatment program for children with anxiety and related disorders. Significant reductions were observed from pre-to-post-treatment on OCD symptom severity total scores. Significant improvements in overall functioning were also observed.

Rogers will be expanding the study in the fall. The study is titled “Exposure based cognitive behavior therapy for childhood obsessive-compulsive disorder in a residential setting: Treatment outcome in an intent-to-treat sample of 8-14 year olds.”

Rogers Memorial Hospital has separate specialized residential programs featuring evidence-based treatments for children and teens. Find out more about the Child Center and the Child and Adolescent Center.
