Many children who come for Rogers’ unique therapy are away from family for the very first time, and Eddie Tomaich, the Clinical Services Manager of the Child Center, seeks to make that transition a little easier by training staff to understand “from a child’s point of view.”
As the former lead therapist of St. Charles Youth and Family Services in Waukesha, WI, Tomaich is well versed on intensive family-based therapy. “I am focused on finding ways to integrate what we’re doing in the unit and to communicate that to parents so they can continue doing the same kinds of things at home,” he said. “It’s important that families are involved. We want children to learn while being as comfortable as possible at the Child Center.”
Tomaich explained that one way might be as simple as giving a parent access to a person who can share how their child’s day went. “My goal is to ensure an easier transition for both children and families,” he continued, “not only as they go from their homes to the Child Center but also as they return home to their families.”
