Rogers Memorial Hospital was a destination on a tour of healthcare facilities for top executives and managers from a large long-term health care system in Europe. Three schools within the University of Wisconsin-Madison, chose Rogers Memorial Hospital as a touring destination because it continuously came up in conversation with colleagues as “an excellent institute of mental health,” and is one of the top behavioral health care facilities in the nation. The European visitors were highly interested in learning how a well-run organization here functions.
Orpea is unable to run an inpatient treatment program like Rogers, because it is only allowed through public hospitals in Europe. It is also difficult to offer children and adolescent programs while the child is in school because there would be trouble communicating with school officials across the continent.
Rogers Behavioral Health System CEO Pat Hammer guided the tour and said it is very encouraging to learn how to provide psychiatric healthcare services in different parts of the world. Hearing about the different business environments these healthcare facilities function in was of interest to the CEO, but he’s quoted saying, “the passion to help people and provide the best care is the same.”
