FOCUS partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a companion to the FOCUS residential treatment program. The FOCUS PHP provides specialized treatment for depression, bipolar disorder and other mood disorders. This program is heavily based in evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address symptoms of depression and anxiety, and includes DBT-informed skills groups to assist patients in improving mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
You will learn to use behavioral activation to manage depression and CBT skills to decrease anxiety. When appropriate, you will work with your therapist on exposures to address phobic avoidance related to anxiety. Patients participate in a combination of group therapy for CBT and DBT-informed skills, individual assignments and one-on-one meetings with their therapist on a regular basis. Mindfulness and experiential therapy activities are also part of weekly schedule. Length of stay depends on a variety of factors, but is estimated to be approximately six to eight weeks.
